About

Welcome!

Southwest Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children (SWOAEYC) is a NEW State affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children serving 16 counties in southwest Ohio:

Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Darke, Fayette, Franklin, Green, Hamilton,

Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby, and Warren Counties.

Beginnings...

From 1914-1917 the National Association for the Education of Young Children invited participation in a national dialogue leading to a plan to restructure. The Board of Directors of Cincinnati AEYC, Columbus AEYC and Dayton AYC were fully engaged in this conversation. Each local affiliate conducted a self-study to examine its own viability and participated in continued discussions with the governing Boards in each of respective community. NAEYC followed our conversations and provided support for our vision of a second affiliate on Ohio.

On September 1, 1917 Cincinnati AEYC, Columbus AEYC and Dayton AYC merged to form a single affiliate with a new name. We are Southwest Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children or SWOAEYC with chapters in Dayton and Columbus.

Commitment...

For more than fifty years our local affiliates successfully engaged members and provided both services and leadership opportunities in the local community. We sought to preserve this approach while advancing the vision, mission and values of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Throughout NAEYC’s National Dialogue we learned that each state would take its own path to restructuring. With support from NAEYC and the commitment our dedicated Board members we decided to embark on a new journey. Our three local affiliates joined as one to continue opportunities for member leadership, engagement, program, services and benefits with a regional focus.

What We Do...

Through conferences, workshops, meetings, publications, community education, research and cooperation with related organizations, SWOAEYC works for better programs and services for young children. We advocate for the needs and rights of young children and promote professional development in the field of early childhood education. SWOAEYC fosters relationships within the community to develop a more inclusive and active membership. We are dedicated to working to ensure quality care for young children and their families.
